Richard Hammer (politician)
Richard Hammer (born February 7, 1897 in Darmstadt ; † October 3, 1969 there ) was a German liberal politician and general practitioner .
Life and work
After graduating from a grammar school and participation in the First World War Hammer began a study of the medicine , which he with the promotion of Dr. med. finished. He then worked as a general practitioner in Darmstadt .
During World War II he was used as a military doctor and was eventually captured. After his release, Hammer became president of the Darmstadt Medical Association. He was also a founding member of the Association of German Doctors , which campaigned against the health insurance reform of the 1950s .
Political party
Hammer was a supporter of Friedrich Naumann and joined the DDP in Darmstadt after the First World War . When the DDP merged with the Young German Order to form the German State Party in 1930 , he did not follow this path and instead took part in the founding of the Radical Democratic Party .
In the storm department , Hammer belonged to "Reserve II".
After the Second World War he was one of the co-founders of the FDP in his hometown.
MP
Hammer was a member of the state parliament in Hesse from 1946 to December 9, 1949 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1957. In 1949 he was directly elected in Darmstadt with 36.8% of the valid votes cast, and in 1953 he entered parliament via the Hessian FDP state list . Since December 7, 1949 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for health care. In this capacity, he campaigned for the elimination of the differences between academically trained dentists and non-academically trained dentists .

- 1956 Large Cross of Merit with Star of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
- 1958 Paracelsus Medal of the German Medical Association.
- 1962 Silver plaque of merit from the city of Darmstadt.
- The Dr. Richard Hammer Medal of the Hessen Medical Association is named after him.
