Richard Kurth (born April 26, 1908 in Rheinfelden ; † 1970 ) was a German confectioner , he created the " Ischler Törtchen " (an Austrian confectionery specialty).

Life

Richard Kurth was born in Rheinfelden in 1908. In 1922 he moved to Lörrach, where he learned his trade in the Pape confectionery. After his journeyman's examination (with distinction), he initially worked in various confectioneries, including Baden-Baden , Berlin , Hamburg , Leipzig , Nuremberg , Stuttgart and Wiesbaden . At the “ Technical School for New Confectionery Art ” in Wolfenbüttel , he passed his master's examination in 1935 (also with distinction) .

He then emigrated to Guatemala . He made a pastry shop in Guatemala City the leading in the country. With his creations he won the gold medal at an international Central American craft exhibition.

After Germany declared war on America (December 11, 1941), Kurth was arrested in January 1942 as an " enemy alien ". After his release from long captivity, he returned to Germany. Later he came to Bad Ischl in Austria , to the famous Zauner confectionery (what “the Demel ” and “the Sacher ” are in Vienna , “the Zauner” is in Bad Ischl).

During his activity, the Zauner pastry shop experienced a further boom. In 1958 Richard Kurth was finally able to win a gold medal at the world exhibition in Brussels for the " Ischler Törtchen " he had created . This Zauner specialty is still as well-known as it is popular all over Austria and can be found in almost every baking book of Austrian cuisine .

Richard Kurth died in 1970 at the age of 61.
