Richard Klein (historian)

Richard Klein (born December 11, 1934 in Fürth , Bavaria , † November 20, 2006 ) was a German ancient historian .

After graduating from high school at the humanistic new high school in Nuremberg , Klein studied Latin, Greek, history and archeology in Erlangen and Munich . In 1958 he passed the scientific state examination in Erlangen and remained in high school until his retirement in 1998. Since 1970 he has also been a lecturer at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed his habilitation in 1977 on Constantius II and the Christian Church . Klein had been a private lecturer since 1978 and from 1983 to 2006 he was an adjunct professor.

Klein dealt with the whole of antiquity , but the main area of ​​work was early Christianity and late antiquity in general . Among other things, Klein gave a volume with texts on the dispute over the Victoria Altar and on Aelius Aristides ' speech in Rome , an anthology each with essays on the Roman emperors Julian and Mark Aurel , two volumes on early Christianity and a treatise on the ecclesiastical policy of Emperor Constantius II . out.
