Richard Preiser
Richard Preiser (born September 6, 1871 in Leutkirch im Allgäu , † October 4, 1945 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German classical philologist .
Life
Born as the first child of Richard Preiser (senior), who was working as a civil engineer at the Württemberg Allgäubahn , he spent his childhood in Biberach an der Riss from 1874 after his father was elected foundation master builder there. From 1885 to 1887 he attended the seminar in Maulbronn , then until 1889 in Blaubeuren . He then studied 1889-1893 Classical Philology , Classical Archeology , German and history at the University of Tübingen , where he was in 1895 with a dissertation to Torso of Belvedere for Dr. phil. PhD.
From 1898 to 1902 he was a senior high school teacher at the Princely Gymnasium Rutheneum in Gera , from 1902 to 1932 he taught at the Goethe Gymnasium (Frankfurt) as a professor, and later as a senior student adviser to the provincial school council.
Since the founding of the University of Frankfurt am Main in 1914, he has been a lecturer in classical philology with a focus on Latin stylistics. He also wrote numerous articles for the Frankfurter Zeitung from 1922 to 1932 and was Germany correspondent for the German-language newspaper Abendpost in Chicago from 1927 to 1932 .

In addition to his teaching activities, he has made a name for himself as a writer on Latin stylistics and as a new Latin writer.
