Richard Werth
Richard Werth (born May 10, 1850 in Magdeburg , † December 25, 1918 in Cologne ) was a German gynecologist . He was a full professor and helped as an obstetrician in the birth of the imperial Prince Heinrich . He was the role model for Professor Gervasius in the novel Only Who Knows Longing by Ida Boy-Ed .
Life stations
After graduating from the Magdeburg High School in September 1869 , Werth studied medicine at the University of Greifswald . There he became a member of the Greifswald fraternity Rugia . After completing the Physikum, he moved to the University of Leipzig in the winter of 1871 . On April 18, 1874 he received his license to practice medicine in Kiel and was then an assistant doctor at the University Eye Clinic in Kiel . In December 1874 Werth was with the thesis A contribution to the theory of the myopia of the University of Kiel Dr. med. PhD . In early 1875 he became an assistant doctor at the obstetric clinic in Kiel and completed his habilitation there in 1877. From the winter of 1878 he worked as a private lecturer and assistant for gynecology in Kiel and then also at the university women's clinics in Berlin and Freiburg . On February 22, 1885 he was appointed associate professor and on August 15, 1885 full professor and director of the obstetric clinic in Kiel. In the same year he was also given the title of Medical Councilor and around 1900 the title of Privy Medical Councilor . On July 31, 1907, Werth retired and moved to Bonn in 1908 and to Würzburg in November 1918 . Richard Werth died in 1918 at the age of 68.

Werth was married and had three sons, two of whom died in World War I , and a daughter who married his student Hans Fuchs in 1905 .

- Coined the term tubal abortion
- Established an auditorium, a delivery room and a gynecological department in the University Women's Clinic in Kiel
- Coined the term Pseudomyxoma peritonei in 1884
Honors
In 1888 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
