Richard von Arnim

Richard Felix von Arnim (born August 10, 1831 in Gerswalde ; † July 30, 1901 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a Prussian officer , military writer and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

origin

Richard von Arnim came from the Gerswalder line of the old Uckermark noble family von Arnim . His parents were Major Wilhelm Gustav Heinrich von Arnim (1783–1861) and his wife Charlotte Auguste Sponholz, née Boeck (1804–1861).

Life

Arnim became a career officer and served on foot with the 3rd Guards Regiment . In 1866 he took part in the Prussian-German War as a captain and company commander . He fought with his regiment in Bohemia and stood out particularly when storming a hill near Chlum . His commander, Colonel Knappe von Knappstaedt , proposed him to King Wilhelm I in September 1866 for the award of the Pour le Mérite order. In the colonel's letter to the king it says: “... Richard Felix v. Arnim, captain in the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot, led his company with great bravura against the hill north of Chlum and took 5 guns ... “King Wilhelm accepted this suggestion and awarded Richard von Arnim the order Pour le Mérite.

Arnim continued to serve as a career officer until he was dismissed as a colonel .

family

He married Magdalene von Keltsch and Riemberg (1841–1929) on July 1, 1861 and had seven daughters with her:
