Ludwig von Borcke

Christian August Ludwig Friedrich von Borcke (born November 9, 1804 in Bahn ; † January 21, 1888 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Ludwig was a member of the Pomeranian noble family Borcke . His parents were the major in Dragoon Regiment No. 5 and heir to Roggow , Ludwig Friedrich von Borcke (1767-1827) and his wife Luise Henriette, née Freiin von Steinaecker (1774-1860). The generals Karl von Borcke (1800–1870), Franz von Borcke (1802–1886) and Wilhelm von Borcke (1807–1867) were his brothers.

Military career

From April 1, 1819, Borcke visited the Berlin Cadet House and on October 15, 1822, he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as portepeef ensign. By mid-May 1825 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and in 1829/32 commanded further training at the General War School. On August 17, 1837, he became Prime Lieutenant and on April 17, 1838, he joined the General Staff . There he became a captain on March 30, 1840 . On April 10, 1840, he was transferred to the General Staff of the VII Army Corps . This was followed from November 7, 1844 to May 20, 1848 as a major in the General Staff of the III. Army Corps . He was then transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment (King) as battalion commander. In 1848 he fought in Denmark in the battle near Schleswig and Düppel. For Düppel he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. On March 22, 1852 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and received the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 14. Class with swords on the ring. On March 22, 1852, he was then transferred to the 10th Infantry Regiment as a colonel . From there he came on January 4, 1857 as commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade and was promoted to major general on October 15, 1857 in this capacity. On October 3, 1859, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with swords on the ring. Then on June 8, 1861, he was a commander of Danzig offset this he received on 18 October 1861 the character as a lieutenant general . On January 29, 1863 he got the patent for his rank. The following year, on January 12, 1864, he was also awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Swords on the Ring. On March 22, 1866 he was given the character of General of the Infantry and on December 24, 1868 he was appointed Governor of Danzig. On July 9, 1870, he was put up for disposal with a pension . In view of the looming war against France , Borcke was brought back on July 18, 1870 as commanding general of the Deputy I. Army Corps . On July 27, 1871, he was released from this position. He died on January 21, 1888 in Potsdam.

family

Borcke married on July 9, 1846 in Raden Adelheid Caroline Klara Wahlert (1819–1908), a daughter of the government councilor Georg Heinrich Wahlert († 1847) from Koblenz and sister of Major General Karl von Wahlert . The couple had several children:
