Ridgeland is a city in Madison County in the US state of Mississippi . Ridgeland is located about 15 kilometers north of the capital Jackson and is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area .
At the 2010 census , Ridgeland had 24,047 residents. In 2014 there were already 24,221 inhabitants, of which just under 54% were white and around 36% black. Overall, the population in Ridgeland grew by 20.1% between 2000 and 2014. This made Ridgeland the second largest city in Madison County and the fourteenth largest in Mississippi in terms of population (as of 2010). 98% of the population live in urban areas. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city of Ridgeland covers an area of approximately 45.8 km², of which approximately 41.1 km² is land and 4.7 km² (10.3%) is water.
Republican Gene F. McGee has been Mayor of Ridgeland since 1989 .
Ridgeland is home to the Northpark Mall , the largest shopping center in the Jackson metropolitan area , two private schools and a campus of the Holmes Community College , which is headquartered in Goodman , Mississippi. In addition, the IT company Bomgar and the telecommunications company C Spire Wireless have their offices in Ridgeland.
On the Interstate 55 leads south to Jackson and north to Memphis , Tennessee .
