history

The Waldhufendorf Riechberg was mentioned in 1428 as "Reichberg". However, the place arose between 1150 and 1162. Riechberg originally belonged to the Altzella monastery . After the secularization of the Altzella monastery property in 1540, the place came to the newly established Wettin office of Nossen . Mining was carried out to the south-east of Riechberg in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1715 the first treasure trove was created with the name Siegfried, which gave the settlement the name Siegfried . Since it was in the Riechberger corridor, it was also called "Riechberger Siegfried". Mining was carried out in Siegfried until 1864. North of Riechberg, the hammer mill has been documented since 1791, in which there was a spinning mill in 1875.

Riechberg with the settlements Siegfried and Hammermühle belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Nossen until 1856 as an official village . Ecclesiastically, the place has always been parish to Bockendorf . From 1856 Riechberg belonged to the Hainichen court office and from 1875 to the Döbeln administrative administration , which was renamed the Döbeln district in 1939.

With the first district reform in the GDR, the municipality of Riechberg first came to the district of Flöha in 1950 . With the second district reform in the GDR in 1952 it was incorporated into the Hainichen district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). Since 1990 Riechberg has belonged to the Saxon district of Hainichen , which was merged in 1994 in the Mittweida district and in 2008 in the central Saxony district. On January 1, 1994, Riechberg was incorporated into Hainichen.
