history

Falkenau was mentioned in 1398 as "Falkenawe". The place was probably created after 1162 as a clearing of Hainichen. Ecclesiastically, the Falkenau has always belonged to Hainichen. In terms of political administration, Falkenau, with its neighboring towns of Gersdorf and Irbersdorf, was a specialty. Surrounded by towns that belonged to the Saxon authorities of Frankenberg-Sachsenburg , Nossen or the Freiberg district office (exclave of the Wingendorf rule ), the three towns were subordinate to the landlord as exclaves Arnsdorf , which initially belonged to the Döbeln office , after 1588 to the Döbelner district of the Leisnig office in the Leipzig district . For Falkenau there is evidence of historical mining for gold. The Falkenauer Bach, formerly known as "Goldbach", was probably gold-bearing, as a "gold soap factory" was built in Falkenau in the 16th century.

Falkenau belonged to the electoral or royal Saxon office of Leisnig as an exclave until 1836 . After that, the place was integrated into the surrounding office of Nossen. From 1856 Falkenau belonged to the Hainichen court office and from 1875 to the Döbeln administration .

With the second district reform in the GDR, the Falkenau community became part of the Hainichen district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ). On January 1, 1979 Falkenau was incorporated into the neighboring town of Gersdorf. Since 1990, Falkenau has belonged as a district of the community of Gersdorf to the Saxon district of Hainichen , which was added to the district of Mittweida in 1994 and in 2008 to the district of central Saxony. Since the incorporation of Gersdorf to Hainichen on January 1, 1994, Gersdorf and Falkenau have formed the village of Gersdorf in the city of Hainichen.
