history
The first 1-room hut was built at the end of the 19th century. The Finazzer family expanded the hut in 1903 and opened it under the name Nuvolaupaßhütte.
In 1916, during the First World War , the hut became the headquarters of the Italian armed forces for the front of the Cinque Torri; due to its location, the hut was well protected from artillery fire. Several small buildings for logistics and a field hospital were built around the hut.
After the war the Finazzer family was able to take over the hut again and open it over the summer months, but the hut was demolished a few years later.
In the course of the tourist development of the region, the brothers Walter and Osvaldo Finazzer decided in 1974 to build a hut again.
In 1980 the Siorpaes family bought the hut, which was still under construction, and opened it in 1982 under the name "Rifugio Averau".
The hut is still owned by the Siorpaes family today.
