Töppeln is a district of the municipality of Kraftsdorf in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .

geography

The place is about 7 km west of Gera in Erlbachtal , a typical Kerbtal , surrounded by four ridges . It is a typical alley village , embedded in a ravine landscape . The Erlbach flows from the west into the village and leaves it towards the northeast. In the southern part of Töppeln the Saarbach flows into the Erlbach.

history

Pottery was first mentioned in a document in 1333.

The origin of the place name is not clearly established. On the one hand, the name can be derived from "double", as two streams converge in the village, the Erl- u. the Saarbach. On the other hand, the name can also be derived from "Topolina", which comes from Sorbian and means poplar in German.

In the Middle Ages there was a tower hill castle in the area of the property . The last structure is said to have been demolished in the 20th century. It was called the bower. A pond and moats are still remnants of the castle complex.

From October 1, 1923 to October 1, 1924, Töppeln belonged to the city of Gera for one year .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipalities Mühlsdorf and Pörsdorf were incorporated.

On the afternoon of August 10, 1981, the road and railway bridge over the Saarbach was completely destroyed by a storm, causing millions in damage to the GDR economy. The repair work on the only single-track rail link between Jena and Gera lasted until 1984. The collapsed bridge structure and the embankment that had been washed away were completely renewed by June 1983.

Until 1996 Töppeln was a member of the Erlbach-Stübnitzthal administrative association . Since January 1, 1997, it has been part of the Kraftsdorf community with its districts of Pörsdorf and Mühlsdorf .

The high jurisdiction was transferred to the newly created criminal court in Gera in 1836 , the lower jurisdiction was abolished on January 1, 1855.
