Ritual is the title of a song that was released as the first single from the self-titled debut album by the American band Dan Reed Network, which was released in 1988 .

background

In the winter of 1987 the group released their debut album Dan Reed Network, produced by Bruce Fairbairn at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver . Ritual was released as the first single in February 1988. The song made it to the Billboard Top 40 and peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 7, 1988 . It was on heavy rotation at MTV USA . The song stayed in the Hot 100 for a total of eleven weeks.

Versions

In addition to the original version, which was released on vinyl single in Canada and the Netherlands , several versions of the song were released on various recording formats. A maxi single was released in the USA with the following remixes: 12 "Mix - Extended Dido Slam, Dido Dub Mix, A cappella Mix and as a House Mix - Tribal Dub. In Germany, the song was released on CD single, alongside the single mix and the Club mix contained, the German vinyl maxi-single containing the Extended Dido Slam and the Club mix . the Dido Slam was by Shep Pettibone produced .

The song reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The German magazine Musikexpress wrote that “the absolute bombshell” on the album was “the smash hit ritual ,” which “could easily be compared with single hits like Jump by Van Halen or Bon Jovis Runaway ”. Especially producer Bruce Fairbairn knows “how to handle the brute song potential excellently,” let “the massive drums stand far in front,” dose “the keyboards almost always right” and give Dan Reed “enough leeway,” grant his voice “erotic timbre and Presence."

In 1997 a sampler was released in Australia with the title A Bouquet of Barbed Wire , on which the gothic rock band Meridian was represented with a cover version of Ritual .
