background

Blake Sakamoto was born to Henry and Lolita Sakamoto. He played in various bands as a teenager, and joined Dan Reed Network when he returned to Portland from Los Angeles after an engagement with the Dear Mr. President group . Dan Reed Network had just their first EP , Breathless , published, and Rick DiGiarllonado had left the formation. Between 1988 and 1991 Sakamoto released three studio albums and one live album with the band .

When the members of the group went their separate ways in 1993, Sakamoto took the keyboards for the album Thrills & Chills of Neil Zaza on. Together with Dan Pred he became a member of the group “Generator”, which later renamed itself “Slowrush” and in 2000 released an album ( volume ). From 2000 to 2001 he was a member of the group “Black Barrel”, and in 2000 and 2003 he produced the albums Making Waves and Big Bang for the group “Portland Taiko”. In 2004 Neil Zaza released an instrumental recording of the Dan Reed Network song Forgot to Make Her Mine on his album Melodika , which was recorded around 2001 with Sakamoto, Daniel Pred, Brion James and Melvin Brannon .

From 2009 to 2012 Sakamoto was musical director of The Season Electric, which took place annually in Portland for Christmas. Sakamoto led the band "Funk 'N' Roll Rockstar." In 2010 he started the group “Nu Wave Machine”.

Since 2007 he has been a member of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame through the inclusion of "Dan Reed Network". In December 2012 he appeared again with the group for the first time, further concerts followed in 2013 during a European tour. For 2014 the band is planning to perform at various European festivals.

Sakamoto left Dan Reed Network in October 2015 because the band's serious comeback attempt, which released a new album on Frontiers Records in the early summer of 2016 , would have restricted his time for family commitments too much. He was replaced by Rob Daiker.
