Melvin Brannon Jr., also Melvin Brannon II, (born July 6, 1962 in Seattle ) is an American musician . He gained fame as the bassist of the rock formation Dan Reed Network , of which he is a founding member. He was a member of Stevie Salas' band and played bass as part of the live ensemble of Edgar Winter and Booker T. Jones .

biography

Melvin Brannon Jr. was born in Seattle to Melvin and Bertha Brannon. He studied music at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham and plays the classic electric bass (both four and five-string versions) as well as the double bass . Before joining the Dan Reed Network in 1984, he played in various top fourty bands, jazz and fusion formations. With Dan Reed Network he released three studio albums in addition to an EP from 1987 .

When the members of the group went their separate ways from 1994, he worked with Stevie Salas from 1995 to 1997 in the formation “Stevie Salas Colorcode”. After an engagement with the experimental band “Land of the Blind” he was a member of Edgar Winter's touring band from 2000, at the same time he had an engagement with the US hard rock band BulletBoys , with whom he performed until 2002. In 2004 Neil Zaza released an instrumental recording of the Dan Reed Network song Forgot to Make Her Mine on his album Melodika , which was recorded around 2001 with Blake Sakamoto , Daniel Pred , Brion James and Melvin Brannon. Brannon has been a member of Booker T. Jones' touring band since the mid-1990s, with whom he last toured for the 2013 album Sound the Alarm .

Brannon has also appeared in films: in the short film F * Stop he played a member of a band in 2004, and in 2006 he appeared in the documentary Dance With the Devil directed by Zalman King .

Since 2007 he has been a member of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame through the inclusion of "Dan Reed Network". In December 2012 he appeared again with the band for the first time, further concerts followed in 2013 during a European tour.
