Horseshoe comb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rosshufkamm is a mountain ridge of the Venediger group on the border between Austria and Italy or between East Tyrol ( Tyrol ) and South Tyrol . The highest peak of the Rosshufkamm is the Althausschneideturm ( 3275  m above sea level ). The horseshoe ridge owes its name to the high horseshoe . The East Tyrolean parts of the chain are located in the Hohe Tauern National Park , the areas in South Tyrol are protected in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park .

location

The horseshoe ridge extends west of the so-called Venedigerstock from northeast to west. It is bounded in the north by the Ahrntal , in the southeast by the Umbal valley and in the southwest by the Wind valley . The Umbaltal or the Isel forms the border to the Maurerkamm in the southeast, the Ahrntal or the Ahr the border to the western Tauern main ridge and the Reichenspitz group . In the northeast of the Rosshuf ridge the Dreiherrenspitze-Südwestgratscharte forms the border to the western Tauern main ridge , south of the Hoher Rosshuf the Umbalkamm branches off at the Hinteren Umbaltörl . The peaks of the Rosshufkamm are almost exclusively on a ridge line. Starting from the Dreiherrenspitze-Südwestgratscharte, the Rosshufkamm initially runs over the Althausschneidturm, the Althausschneide and the Althausschneidspitze to the southwest, to the east and to the Hohen Rosshuf. Here the Umbalkamm branches off to the south, while the Rosshufkamm runs over the Middle and Western Horseshoe to the Great and Small Gamstod and to the Inner and Outer Hohe Warte to the west. A southwest ridge branches off the Großer Gamstod and leads to the Sauspitzl.

The ridge between the Althausschneidturm and Hohem Rosshuf forms the state border between Italy in the north and Austria in the south. The peaks west of the High Horseshoe are entirely on Italian territory. Adjacent communities are Prägraten am Großvenediger on the Austrian side and Ahrntal on the Italian side.

glacier

There are numerous glaciers in the flanks of the Rosshufkamm. On the Austrian side, south of the Althausschneide, is the Althauskees, the northwestern part of the Umbalkee . To the north of the Althausschneide on Italian territory lies the Inner Lahner Kees to the east and the Outer Lahner Kees to the west. North of the Großer Gamstod there is also the Kerra Kees, south between Großem Gamstod and Hohem Rosshuf there is also the Windtal Kees.
