Rob Goris (born March 15, 1982 in Herentals , † July 5, 2012 in Honfleur , France ) was a Belgian ice hockey player and road cyclist .

Career

ice Hockey

Rob Goris began his career as a hockey player with the HYC Herentals , for whose first team he was active in the Belgian ice hockey league from 1998 to 2003 . With the team he won the Belgian championship title for the first time in 2002 and the Belgian cup competition in 1999, 2000 and 2003 . From 2003 to 2005 he played for Herental's league rivals Olympia Heist op den Berg , with whom he also became champion in 2004. Most recently he played again for the HYC Herentals from 2005 to 2009, with which he became Belgian champion for the third time in 2009.

International

For Belgium , Goris took part in the World Championships in Division I 2004 and the World Championships in Division II in 2005 and 2006 .

Cycling

In the 2009 season, Rob Goris won a circuit race in Zele and the one-day race at Meer-Hoogstraten, among other things . He was also fourth at Puurs-Kalfort and fifth at Booischot-Pijpelheide . In 2010 he drove for the Belgian Continental Team Palmans-Cras . In his first year there, he won the Antwerpse Havenpijl . He was also the Belgian champion in the road race of the elite drivers without a contract. Most recently he drove for the Belgian team Verandas Willems .

Teams

Private and death

Goris lived with cyclist Katrien Van Looy , granddaughter of road world champion Rik Van Looy .

During the 2012 Tour de France , Goris and his girlfriend appeared on the TV show Vive le Vélo on the evening of July 4th . Goris died of a heart attack the following night in a hotel in Honfleur, France .
