Rob Thomas (musician)
Robert Kelly "Rob" Thomas (born February 14, 1972 in Landstuhl , Germany ) is an American musician who became known as the singer of the rock band matchbox twenty in the late 1990s .
biography
Thomas was born on the US military base in Landstuhl . At the age of 13 he wanted to become a musician. The first concert he attended was from Genesis on the Invisible Touch Tour . His greatest musical influence is Steve Burry.
Before joining matchbox twenty, he played in the band Tabitha's Secret with Brian Yale and Paul Doucette.
He celebrated his first successes as a solo artist in 1999 with the single Smooth in collaboration with the band Santana , which reached number one on the US Billboard charts.
In 2001 he was the youngest artist to be inducted into the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame, and in June 2004 he was the first to receive the newly formed “Starlight Award” from the Songwriters Hall of Fame , which honors young composers who left their mark on contemporary music in their early years and made a lasting impression on the music industry.
In April 2005, the debut album Something to Be was released , which went platinum in the United States. The first single was Lonely No More . It also includes a duet with John Mayer .
He has been married to Marisol Maldonado since 1999 and has a son named Maison Avery from a previous relationship. He lives near New York .
In June 2007, the single Little Wonders was released , which is included on the soundtrack to the Disney film Meet the Robinsons . In Germany, the single rose to position 33 and in between reached number 21, and in mid-August even after 14 weeks of chart presence, it even reached number 20.
The second solo album Cradlesong was released in June 2009 and contains 14 songs. The first single from it is called Her Diamonds .
