Matchbox Twenty (originally Matchbox 20 ) is a rock band from Orlando in the US state of Florida . In addition to the five band members Rob Thomas , Brian Yale, Paul Doucette , Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook , producer Matt Serletic is an unofficial sixth member. The band sold over 20 million albums worldwide.
history
Rob Thomas , Brian Yale (nickname: Pookie) and Paul Doucette first played in the band Tabitha's Secret before forming Matchbox 20 with Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook in 1995 .
In 1996 her first album Yourself or Someone Like You (1996) was released, which is by far her most successful and ninth most successful debut album with over 12 million copies sold. a. which includes Singles Push and 3 AM .
In 1999, Thomas and Serletic were involved as songwriters and lead singers and producers, respectively, on Carlos Santana's world hit Smooth , which was released in 2000 a. a. won three Grammy Awards and appeared in 2008 at # 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs .
In 2000, the group changed the spelling of the band name to Matchbox Twenty with the release of their second album Mad Season .
After the band had been on tour with this album for almost two years, they took a break from October 2001, during which the members devoted themselves to their families and other projects. Rob Thomas wrote songs a. a. for Willie Nelson , Mick Jagger , Carlos Santana and Marc Anthony .
In April 2002, Matchbox Twenty performed together again for the Willie Nelson and Friends: Stars and Guitars concert in Nashville .
Work on the third album More Than You Think You Are began in June 2002 at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock , New York. The final work took place in the Hit Factory in New York City . For the first time on this album, in contrast to the previous ones, in which Rob Thomas appeared as the main composer, there are also contributions on which the other band members contributed ( Feel , Soul by Paul Doucette and Kyle Cook), sometimes even exclusively ( Could I Be You by Paul Doucette).
In May 2004 the double DVD show: A Night in the Life of Matchbox Twenty was released . The first DVD contains 20 live songs, the second additional material such as lyrics and documentation.
The band then took a break to pursue their own projects and personal interests. Since then, Rob Thomas has had various successful releases as a solo artist. Adam Gaynor left the group in February 2005.
The album Exile on Mainstream , a mixture of well-known hits and newly recorded songs, was released in Germany on September 28, 2007 in the USA. A limited special edition in the form of a bracelet with an integrated USB stick was also auctioned there. As singles were How Far We've Come and thesis Hard Times decoupled.
On September 4, 2012, the album North was released.
