Robert C. O'Brien (writer)
Robert C. O'Brien , actually Robert Leslie Conly (born January 11, 1918 in New York , † March 5, 1973 in Washington, DC ), was an American writer and journalist . He wrote for National Geographic magazine .
Life
He was the third of five children in a family of Irish descent. He was interested in both music and literature, studying music at the Juilliard School for some time before earning a degree in English literature from the University of Rochester . After that he turned to journalism and writing. In 1943 he married Sarah McCaslin, with whom he lived until the end of his life.
The most successful of his books, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH , formed the basis for the cartoon Mrs. Brisby and the Secret of NIMH ( The Secret of NIMH ) and was written in German a. a. also published in the ZEIT edition Fantastic Stories for Young Readers . His daughter Jane Leslie Conly added two follow-up books, Racso and the Rats of NIMH (1986) and RT, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH (1990).
