Robert Carter (writer)
Robert Carter (* 1955 in Newcastle-under-Lyme , Staffordshire , England ; † 2015 ) was a British writer of fantasy and historical novels .
Live and act
Robert Carter grew up in Sydney , Australia and later in Lancashire . He studied astrophysics at Newcastle University , where he began writing science fiction stories. After graduating, he worked in the oil industry in Dallas , Texas , and later on oil rigs in the Middle East and Africa, including on the "Ron Tappmeyer", which exploded in the Persian Gulf in October 1980 , killing 19 people. The work also took him to seldom visited areas such as the Rub al-Chali desert and parts of Equatorial Africa .
After working in the oil industry, he traveled to Europe and Asia, including East Berlin , Warsaw , Moscow and Leningrad . He rode the Trans-Siberian Railway and visited Japan , Hong Kong , Myanmar , India , Sri Lanka and Indonesia . On his return he worked for the BBC and became a freelance writer in London in 1986 .
