Robert Fischer (born October 2, 1954 in Greven , also: Robert Fischer-Ettel , pseudonym: Robert J. Kirberg ) is a German film journalist, director and film historian.

Live and act

Robert Fischer began his career as a film journalist in 1974 with his first publications in the industry information service Film-Telegramm Hamburg.

From 1975 to 1980 he studied journalism, German literature and art history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . During his studies he was responsible for reviews and festival reports for the trade journal Evangelischer Filmbeobachter .

In his work as a freelance film publicist and journalist, he published numerous articles in the specialist journals epd Film and steadycam , as well as his own book publications. In 1984 he took up a position as a correspondent for the London film trade journal Screen International and at the same time worked until 1990 as the German editor of the festival magazine Journal for the Berlinale .

From 1986 to 1994 Fischer was the editor in charge of the official festival catalog of the Munich Film Festival , and since 1992 he has also been a member of the International Film Program Selection Committee. From 1995 to 1999 he was deputy or acting director of the Filmmuseum of the Münchner Stadtmuseum before he mainly devoted himself to his work as a documentary filmmaker.

From 2000 to 2002 he was teaching at the University of Television and Film Munich and the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy .

Together with Herbert Klemens , Fischer founded the film-historical image archive Filmbild Fundus in 1993 , which has recorded around one million motifs from the silent film era to the present day and, according to the company, is one of the largest private film image archives in Germany.

Robert Fischer conceptualized and realized exhibitions on the subject of film in Berlin, Vienna, Munich and Frankfurt. He worked on dubbing books mainly for French films and took on numerous subtitles.

Awards

Fischer has been awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his services to French film in Germany, awarded by Culture Minister Jack Lang on June 15, 1990. As an author, Fischer won the epd Film's readers' poll for the film book of the year in 1990, 1991 and 1997 .
