Robert Kerns

Robert Kerns (born June 8, 1932 in Detroit , † February 18, 1989 in Vienna ) was an American baritone .

Kerns graduated from Michigan University . He made his debut in 1955 in Toledo / Ohio as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly . In 1960 after a year he left the New York Opera and came to Europe at the Zurich Opera . In 1963 he began a long collaboration with the Vienna State Opera and made his debut at the Royal Opera House. He performed at the Paris Opera in 1973 and was a permanent guest at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin .

He was a guest at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Salzburg Festival , where he played Almavia in Le nozze di Figaro , Don Giovanni , Guglielmo in Cosi van tutte , Papageno in the Magic Flute , Alequin in Ariadne on Naxos , and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore .

He later sang heavy roles such as Germont, Posa , Ford and Falstaff, as well as Marcello , Scarpia and Onegin . In Wagner roles such as Wolfram, Donner and Amfortas , his acting and vocal skills emerged.

Robert Kerns was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 30B, row 15, number 19).
