Roberto Gomes Pedrosa , (born July 8, 1913 in Rio de Janeiro , † January 6, 1954 ), was a Brazilian national football goalkeeper .

career

Pedrosa started his career at Botafogo from Rio de Janeiro in 1930 at the age of seventeen . Because of his good performance, he was invited to the football World Cup with the national team in 1934. After his trip to the World Cup and a subsequent extensive friendly game tour, the player moved to the Estudante Paulista in São Paulo . After another two years he went to São Paulo FC.

For the national soccer team of Brazil, he played the international match at the 1934 World Cup . The team lost this only game at the World Cup with 1: 3 against Spain and were eliminated in the second round.

Trivia

Immediately after his professional career, he was elected director of São Paulo FC in 1940. Then in 1941 he was appointed director of the department for football and a year later made honorary membership. In 1946 Pedrosa was elected chairman of São Paulo FC. A position he held until his death in 1954.

In addition to the club work, Pedrosa was also active at the association level. In 1943 he was appointed director of the technical department of the Football Federation of São Paulo the Federação Paulista de Futebol (FPF). In 1944 he was General Secretary of the FPF and in 1945 he was an elected member of the Regional Sports Council. In 1947 he was elected President of the São Paulo Football Association.

Named after him, the tournament " Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa " took place from 1967 to 1970 . For the Praça Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Platz) at the Estádio do Morumbi , Pedrosa is also the namesake.
