Rochester Jeffersons
The Rochester Jeffersons were an American football team that played in the National Football League (NFL).
Team history
The Rochester Jeffersons were founded in Rochester in 1898 as an amateur club . They did not belong to any league at first and played against regional amateur or semi-professional teams. It was not until 1917 that they competed against well-known professional teams. In a game against the Canton Bulldogs , the team lost 41-0 in 1917. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was founded. The league was renamed the NFL in 1922. The Jeffersons became a charter member in the league. While the first game year 1920 was still satisfactory, the team won six of eleven games, the team's performance deteriorated significantly in the next rounds. From the 1922 season, the team could no longer win a game. After the 1925 season, the Jeffersons had to stop playing. In the following years, attempts to bring the team back to life failed.
