The Muncie Flyers ( German  Muncie Flieger ) were a football team that had existed since 1905 and played in the National Football League (then still American Professional Football Association; APFA) from 1920 to 1921 . There they played three games in two seasons, all of which were lost. The Flyers were based in Muncie , Indiana .

history

Congerville Flyers (1915)

The Flyers were founded in 1905 and went into professional gaming in 1911. The Flyer played mostly against local teams, but occasionally against teams from bigger cities like Indianapolis . In 1919 they played games against the Cincinnati Celts and Dayton Oakwoods . They were able to show a 4-1-1 record this year and thus win the city championship.

In 1920 the Flyers became a founding member of APFA. They took part in one of the first games in league history. In that game they lost 0:45 against the Rock Island Independents . After that game, their game against the Decature Staleys was canceled and the Flyers only played three more games against local non-APFA teams. In 1921 Cooney Checkaye took over the post of head coach , The Flyers played against the Cincinnati Celts and the Evansville Crimson Giants , both games being lost. After the season, the Flyers resigned from the APFA because they could not bear the financial burdens.

Checkaye continued the Flyers until 1925, initially as Congerville Flyers, later as Jonesboro Flyers.
