Hammond Pros
The Hammond Pros was a US American football team . The pros were based in Hammond , Indiana . However, they only had a home ground in 1919 - Cub Field in Chicago . From that year they were a "travel team".

The Hammond Pros were founded in 1919 by Paul Parduhn, a Hammond businessman as the "Hammond All-Stars". The predecessor of the National Football League (NFL), the American Professional Football Association (APFA) did not exist at the time. Well-known players on the team were the future team owners of the Chicago Bears George Halas and Paddy Driscoll , who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after his career . The team was otherwise composed of other well-paid football professionals. In 1920, Dr. Alva Andrew "Doc" Young the financially troubled team. Young was a doctor and had a practice in Hammond since 1905 . From 1915 to 1917 he was the coach and team doctor of a semi-professional football team at a local athletics club. The All-Stars have been renamed Pros and the high-paid football professionals have been replaced by players from the Hammond area. Players were paid to play a game. They did not receive an annual salary. In 1921, earnings for a game ranged from 65 cents to $ 67 . In order to earn a living, they had to do other jobs on the side.
Young went to Canton in 1920 for the founding meeting of the APFA . He received a franchise for his team . The pros played for two years in the APFA and then five years in the NFL. Until 1924 they lost more games than they could win in all seasons. After the 1926 season, the pros stopped playing.
