The APFA season in 1921 was the second season of American Football League "American Professional Football Association" (APFA) located in the well-known today in the following year National Football League was renamed (NFL). Master were in the previous year in Decatur -based Chicago Staley - a year later was renamed Chicago Bears .
Jim Thorpe was replaced as president before the season by Joseph Carr , who had some experience running a baseball league. Carr also decided on a few minimal rules that year. For example, only games against other APFA teams counted in the championship standings.
The Chicago Tigers no longer competed. Eight new teams were added with the Cincinnati Celts , Evansville Crimson Giants , Green Bay Packers , Louisville Brecks , Minneapolis Marines , New York Brickley Giants , Tonawanda Kardex and the Washington Senators . The Cleveland Tigers were renamed Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Heralds were renamed Detroit Tigers .
