Roger Gössner (born November 11, 1964 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a former German wrestler.

Career

Roger Gössner grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein as the son of Helmut Gössner, who was German runner-up in the light heavyweight wrestling in the Greco-Roman style in 1960. As a child, he began to emulate his father, also with the KSV Friesenheim wrestling . Ambitious and talented, he was already able to achieve many successes in the junior division and took 3rd place in the class up to 60 kg at the 1982 World Youth Championships in Colorado Springs . In the past he was rather small and skinny, and later he gained weight and grew into one of the best German middleweight wrestlers in the Greco-Roman style.

His best year was in 1987, when he took a good fifth place at the European Championships and was sensationally runner-up at the World Championships in Clermont-Ferrand . In spring 1988 he suffered a serious injury that prevented him from starting at the European Championships. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he started but was unable to place in the front field because of the lack of training due to injury. After 1988 he resigned from international wrestling events because of his injuries. In Germany he also had a competitor in his weight class in Thomas Zander from Aalen .

In Germany he struggled even further and continued for many years in team fights, where he competed for KSV Friesenheim, KSV Wiesenthal, ASV Lampertheim and SV Germania Weingarten . Since 2005 he has been on the mat for KSV Hemsbach as a (co) trainer and points guarantee. On December 13, 2008, after 30 years of team wrestling, he played his last wrestling match for the time being.
