Roger Wheeler
Sir Roger Neil Wheeler , GCB , CBE (born December 16, 1941 in Eton , Berkshire ) is a former officer in the British Army , who was chief of the British Army General Staff between 1997 and 2000 . In addition, he was from 2001 to 2009 Constable of the Tower (Constable of the Tower) and was the highest officer of the Tower of London .
Life
Roger Neil Wheeler, son of the late Major General Norman Wheeler and nephew of the late Air Chief Marshal Neil Wheeler , completed his education at the 1515 founded Allhallows College and began in 1961 to study at Hertford College of the University of Oxford . In 1963 he resigned as lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) in the Territorial Army, and moved in 1964 to the infantry regiment Royal Ulster Rifles . He stayed in this post until November 1986 and was then replaced by Brigadier General Jeremy Phipps . Sheppard in May 1989 as Director of Army Planning (Director of Army Plans) . Then he was in August 1989 as a major general (Major-General) again successor to Major-General Richard Swinburn as a commander ( General Officer Commanding ) of the 1st Armored Division ( 1st Armored Division ) . He held this position until October 1990 and was then replaced by Major General Rupert Smith . He himself, in turn, took over from Major General Richard Swinburn in November 1990 as Assistant Chief of the General Staff (British Army) and remained in this until December 1992, when Major General Michael Walker succeeded him there.
Thereafter, Lieutenant General (Lieutenant General) Roger Wheeler in January 1993, succeeding Lieutenant-General John Wilsey as commander of the Military District Northern Ireland (General Officer Commanding, Northern Ireland District) and held this command until his re-replacement by Lieutenant General Rupert Smith in March 1995 inside. During this time he was beaten on June 12, 1993 to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB), so that from then on he carried the suffix "Sir". Between March 1995 and March 1996 he served as commander of the British forces stationed in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the Bosnian War .
