Roland Herrmann (diplomat)

Roland Herrmann (born November 1, 1948 in Gaggenau , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German diplomat and has been consul general in Cape Town since 2012 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Herrmann studied mathematics and physics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1966 to 1973 and then worked as a civil servant for the state of Baden-Württemberg until 1979 .

In 1979 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing the career test for the higher service, was employed at the Consulate General in Mumbai from 1981 to 1984 and then at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn until 1988 . After a subsequent position as an employee at the embassy in Great Britain and from 1991 and 1994 at the embassy in Israel , he was Deputy Head of the Department for Southeast Asia at the Foreign Office in Bonn between 1994 and 1997 .

After Herrmann was consul general in Jeddah from 1997 to 2000 , he became permanent representative of the ambassador in Singapore . In 2004 he received ambassador to Bahrain as the successor to Wolfgang Lerke . He held this office until he was replaced by Hubert Lang , who was previously Consul General in Jeddah. Instead, he became Consul General in Chennai in 2007 as the successor to Johann Heinz Kopp , who had retired .

Roland Herrmann was Consul General in Houston between 2009 and 2012 . He has been Consul General in Cape Town since 2012 .
