Roland Köster (diplomat)
Wilhelm Dietrich Helmut Roland Köster (born June 1, 1883 in Mannheim , † December 31, 1935 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a German diplomat.
Life
Roland Köster was the son of the banker and consul Wilhelm August Hyppolyt Köster (1854-1902) and the Dutchwoman Anthonia Maria Dyserinck (1858-1943) and cousin of Cyriel Buysse . He studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . He became a member of the Corps Franconia Munich (1904) and the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg (1905). In 1908 he joined the judicial service of the Grand Duchy of Baden . In 1911 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. In 1912 he was appointed legation secretary of the Baden embassy in Berlin and in 1914 he was appointed to the Foreign Office . After his military service he worked in the embassy in The Hague from 1915 . In 1919 he headed the Prussian legation to the Hanseatic cities as legation counselor , then until 1925 in The Hague, Brussels and Prague. From 1925 to 1929 he was lecturer in the Legation Council in the Foreign Office and head of the protocol. From 1929 to 1930 he was envoy in Oslo. In 1931 he was appointed Ministerial Director of the Personnel Department in the Foreign Office. From November 1932 until his death he was ambassador to Paris. Köster died of pneumonia at the age of 52. He received a state funeral in France. The Paris embassy took Johannes Graf von Welczeck . His nephew Ernst vom Rath was also employed at the embassy in Paris.
