Rolf Deppeler

Rolf Deppeler (born March 11, 1926 in Bern ; † April 28, 2011 there ; entitled to live in Tegerfelden ) was a Swiss historian , columnist , satirist , editor and politician .

Life

Rolf Deppeler, son of a Bern advocate , attended grammar school in Biasca and Bern. He then studied history , political science and philosophy at the University of Bern , the HU Berlin , the La Sapienza University in Rome and the University of Kansas . In 1952 he obtained a high school teacher certificate and obtained his doctorate in 1956 in Bern. phil.

From 1954 he worked as a journalist and editor for the newspaper Der Bund . To this end, he was director of the Bern Evening Technology Center from 1959 to 1962. From 1964 to 1966 he was secretary of the University of Bern, from 1967 to 1968 general secretary of the new European University Directors' Conference and from 1969 to 1989 secretary of the Swiss Humanities Society and the Swiss University Conference .

From 1970 to 1974 he was a Grand Councilor ( FDP ) in the canton of Bern and in 1983 one of the founders of the “Free List” (GFL) .

Deppeler also presided over the WWF Switzerland from 1988 to 1989 . He became known in German-speaking Switzerland primarily through his work for Swiss radio DRS and television - including programs such as Wort zum Tag or Telearena - and as an author of novels and columns.
