Rolf Göring (born February 27, 1940 in Lörrach ) is a former German entrepreneur and automobile racing driver . He was European mountain champion in 1983 and 1984.
Racing career
Rolf Göring began his career in motorsport in the mid-1960s and competed in mountain and circuit races.
Hill climb
He achieved his greatest successes in motorsport in mountain races. From 1967 onwards, until the end of the 1990s, he started mainly with a Porsche 911 racing car and later with a BMW M1 in various events and won several victories.
In 1982 Göring became International German Mountain Champion with a BMW M1. In the following two years, 1983 and 1984, he also won the European mountain champion title in the production car class on a BMW M1 .
Circuit racing
From 1967 to 1976 Göring competed mainly with Porsche racing cars in non-championship races, in the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM) and later in the German Automobile Circuit Cup (DARM). During this period from 1971 to 1973 he drove for the Autohaus Max Moritz racing team and achieved several podium finishes.
In 1971 he competed in the sports car brand world championship together with Klaus Utz in a Porsche 911 S in the GT + 2.0 class. In 1984 and 1985 he drove a BMW M1 in Group B again in the sports car endurance world championship . His best place in this racing series, a 12th place, he achieved in 1985 in the 1000 km race at the Hockenheimring .
In 1981 he drove one season with a BMW M1 in the 1st division of the German Racing Championship (DRM). In the following racing series, the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), he competed in 1985 and 1986 with a BMW 635 CSi .
For the Alfa Romeo works team, he competed in the European Touring Car Championship in 1983 with an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 . In 1985 and 1986 he entered the racing series with a BMW 635 CSi. He had his last race in touring car racing in 1987 with a BMW 325 in Brno, which he finished in 18th place.
In 1986 , 1988 and 1989 he drove in the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup .
Career as an entrepreneur
After finishing school, Rolf Göring began training as a painter in his father's company and passed his journeyman's examination in 1957. Four years later, after passing his exam as a master painter and varnisher, he took over his father's business.
The company has been expanded by him over the years and the scaffolding department has been added. In 2000 45 people were employed there. In 2007 he handed over management of the company to one of his daughters and withdrew from it.
Göring married his wife Sigrid in 1961 with whom he has three daughters. His wife died in 2017.
