Rolf Hartung
Rolf Hartung (born July 31, 1908 in Quedlinburg ; † October 7, 1995 in Hanover ) was a German art teacher , painter and author .
Life
He was the eldest son of the wine merchant Gustav Hartung and his wife Frieda and was born in House Pölle 22 in Quedlinburg. Here he also spent his childhood and youth. After graduating from GutsMuths Oberrealschule , he began studying art in 1928 in Düsseldorf , Weimar , Breslau and Berlin . He was a student of Otto Mueller and Alexander Kanoldt (New Objectivity). After the state examination he worked as an art teacher in Halle and Egeln near Magdeburg . In World War II he was awarded the Iron Crossexcellent. After fleeing to the FRG in 1954, he was an art teacher at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Hanover , later a lecturer at the Werkkunstschule Hanover and the pedagogical universities of Hildesheim and Kiel .
He was married to the doctor Ruth Hartung, with whom he had three daughters.
influence
The influences of the art dictates of the Third Reich , the GDR and West German modernism remained insignificant. The flight from the GDR to West Berlin in 1953 was a turning point in his life, as he had to leave his previous work behind during the hasty escape. All he could take with him was a small folder with his war drawings. With the exception of a few pictures that were saved by his mother and a friend, his oeuvre spanning more than twenty years has either been lost or destroyed. In the later years of his life he turned more to paintwork.
