Rolf Sachs

Rolf Sachs (born August 10, 1955 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss artist , designer and set designer .

Life

Rolf Sachs is the son of the industrial heir and photographer Gunter Sachs and his first wife Anne-Marie Faure. Sachs attended the Le Rosey boarding school in the canton of Vaud , where he also met his wife Maryam Banihashem (* 1962) from Tehran, whom he married in 1985. The three children Philipp, Frederik and Roya Sachs came from the marriage. In 2014, he separated from Maryam by mutual agreement. Mafalda von Hessen has officially been his partner since 2015 .

From 1975 he studied economics at the universities of London and San Francisco . He then worked as an investment banker . He has worked as a furniture designer since 1984 and as a set designer since 2006. A large special exhibition with design objects that deal with German virtues took place in 2014 at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne .

Rolf Sachs has lived in London since 1994 and founded his design studio rolf sachs fun'ction there . According to his own statements, he was influenced by Suprematism , Dadaism , Surrealism , the artist group Nouveau Réalisme and the artist Joseph Beuys . His penchant for chairs led to an extensive collection of chairs that began in the late 1980s.
