Rolf Ulrici

Rolf Ulrici (born March 7, 1922 in Berlin ; as Rolf Stitz-Ulrici ; † September 27, 1997 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a German writer . Under the pseudonyms Rex Corbett , Hans Korda and Hans Rodos , he mainly wrote books for young people .

Life

Rolf Ulrici, son of a bank director, was a student at a Berlin high school from 1932 to 1941. During the Second World War , he took part in the African campaign as a soldier in the Wehrmacht . After the end of the war he worked briefly as a director in Düsseldorf , Berlin , Guben , Halberstadt and Neuruppin . From 1949 he wrote as a journalist in Berlin serial novels for smaller newspapers as well as contributions for the children's program of the RIAS .

At the “ Zamenhof memorial service” on December 11, 1949 in Berlin, he directed the performance of the play “La Gefratoj” (“ The Siblings ” by Johann Wolfgang Goethe ) in the Esperanto translation by Karl Vanselow .

The first work was published by Rudolf Weiter Verlag in Berlin in 1951, Die Zöglinge von Abbot Castle , a detective novel cover for the book by Wilhelm Kohlhoff . Since the success of the Käpt'n Konny books, Ulrici has worked as a freelance writer in Bernau am Chiemsee . In 1953 he received the German Youth Book Prize .

Rolf Ulrici has designed numerous series of books for young people. His books are aimed (typically for this time) gender-segregated at girls, e. With horse stories, and boys, e.g. B. with cowboy stories. Series heroes, often named equally in the book title, are boys and girls. The most successful was the series with Captain Konny , who lived through adventures in several parts from 1954 to 1976. Rolf Ulrici also wrote ghost stories and, increasingly, science fiction . He also combined these two genres with each other. It reached its peak in science fiction literature for young people in the 1970s with the series Monitor and its sequel Giganto (reports) . The other sequels of the series under the titles Weltraumklipper , Superhirn and Telephantom , parts of which appeared in quick succession around 1982, also attracted attention. The books were mainly published by Franz Schneider Verlag and W. Fischer Verlag .
