The cryptogramma ( Cryptogramma ) is a genus in the family of pteridaceae (Pteridaceae) within the Real ferns (Polypodiopsida). The nine or so species are mainly found in the northern hemisphere .

features

The roll fern species are perennial herbaceous plants . They form creeping rhizomes and tubular or net-like vascular bundle systems . The leaves are strikingly different depending on whether they are fertile or sterile. The sori are submarginal, they are veilless and later form a single sori at the end of the veins. The spores are tetrahedral.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Cryptogramma was established by Robert Brown .

The genus Cryptogramma is common in the northern hemisphere in Eurasia and North America . In the southern hemisphere there are only isolated occurrences in southern South America.

There are only two species in Europe: Curly furry fern ( Cryptogramma crispa ) and delicate furry fern ( Cryptogramma stelleri ).
