features
The roll fern species are perennial herbaceous plants . They form creeping rhizomes and tubular or net-like vascular bundle systems . The leaves are strikingly different depending on whether they are fertile or sterile. The sori are submarginal, they are veilless and later form a single sori at the end of the veins. The spores are tetrahedral.

There are about nine species of the genus Cryptogramma R.Br. (Selection):
- Curly furry fern ( Cryptogramma crispa (L.) R.Br. ex Hook. , Syn .: Allosorus crispus (L.) Bernh. ), With triple pinnate leaves
- Delicate furry fern ( Cryptogramma stelleri (SGGmel.) Prantl ): The leaves are double pinnate. It occurs in North America and reaches Europe from East Asia via Russia.
- American fur fern ( Cryptogramma acrostichoides R.Br. ): It occurs in East Asia ( Kamchatka ) and North America, south to Mexico.
- Cryptogramma brunoniana Wall. ex Hook. & Grev. : It occurs in East Asia and in western North America.
