description

Curly furry fern ( Cryptogramma crispa ) in the Vosges

The Krause Roll Fern is a deciduous, perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 15 to 30 centimeters. It has a branching rhizome . Its 15 to 30 centimeters long leaves are in a dense cluster, they are delicate and three to four times pinnate. The petiole is equal to twice as long as the leaf blade. The pinnate sections are often densely packed, are narrowly egg-shaped and usually wedge-shaped at the bottom. The sporangia-bearing fronds protrude about 35 centimeters in length from the sterile fronds and differ slightly in shape. Your pinnate sections are 2 to 10 millimeters long and 1 to 2 millimeters wide and curled at the edge.

The sori are initially covered by the leaf margin, later open and naked (veilless). The spores ripen in June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 120.

Occurrence

The furry fur fern is widespread in the northern hemisphere in Eurasia and North America . In Europe it only comes with the subspecies Cryptogramma crispa subsp. crispa mainly in the boreal zone (in Scandinavia , where it becomes rarer to the east, and in Great Britain ), in the Alps (at altitudes up to 2800 meters), in the Pyrenees , in the Caucasus , in the French massif central and in the Vosges. In Germany it is found in the Black Forest , the Bavarian Forest and the High Fens . It used to also be found in the Harz Mountains.

In Central Europe it occurs particularly in the high-montane to alpine altitude range of the Alps and rarely descends (in the low mountain ranges) below 1000 meters.

The curly furry fern grows in light-rich, seldom also in sunny, dry, lime-poor , acidic sites, rubble heaps and in stone rubble , also in crevices and occasionally in block walls. He's eponymous character species of Cryptogrammetum crispae within the class Thlaspietea rotundifolii .

Taxonomy

The first publication took place in 1753 under the Basionym Osmunda crispa by Carl von Linné . Another synonym for Cryptogramma crispa (L.) R.Br. ex Richardson is, for example, Allosorus crispus (L.) Bernh.
