Roman Codreanu

Roman Codreanu (born November 17, 1952 in Zimandu Nou , Arad County , † May 26, 2001 in Arad , Arad County) was a Romanian wrestler .

Career

Roman Codreanu was very difficult even as a teenager. Wrestling was therefore the right sport for him. After his talent was recognized, he was delegated to the Astra Arad sports club . After winning the Romanian super heavyweight championship, he was also used in international competitions and achieved many successes. His body weight at that time was about 145 kg. He achieved his greatest success in 1978 when he became the superior European champion in Oslo and also defeated the multiple Bulgarian world champion Alexandar Tomow . In total, he was eight times Romanian super heavyweight champion. After the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , he ended his active career because the world association FILA had set the upper limit of the weight class to 130 kg, unattainable for Codreanu.

From the beginning of the 1980s he studied at the Institute for Education and Sport in Bucharest and graduated in 1986 as a certified sports teacher. Codreanu became a trainer in Arad, but had to give up this position in 1998 for health reasons. In order to supplement his pension, he then took over the job of ticket seller at Astra Arad. He died in 2001 at the age of 48 of complications from severe heart disease, leaving behind a wife and two sons.
