from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Avtandil Maisuradze , Georgian ავთანდილ მაისურაძე , Russian Автандил Майсурадзе (* 1955 ) is a former Soviet wrestler of Georgian origin.

Career

Avtandil Maisuradze was a young Georgian wrestler who had grown into an outstanding super heavyweight (over 100 kg body weight at the time) in the mid-1970s. He became a member of Dinamo Tbilisi and wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style.

In 1975 he was used at the Junior World Championships in Chaskowo in the super heavyweight division, where he won the world title ahead of Henryk Tomanek from Poland and the Bulgarian Borisow. In the following years he was strongly promoted by the Soviet Wrestling Association and used in various international tournaments, where he always performed well. In 1978 he started for the first time at an international senior championship, the European championship in Sofia . But he could not fully convince there and was defeated by Alexandar Tomow , the multiple Bulgarian world champion and against Roman Codreanu from Romania and only came in 5th place with only one win over Zygmunt Andrecki from Poland .

In the following years he did not appear at any international championships. The reason for this was quite simply the extremely strong competition he had in his weight class in the Soviet Union . So he occupied z. B. at the Soviet championship 1978 behind Oleksandr Kolchynskyj , a multiple world champion , the 2nd place, but came at the Spartakiad of the USSR 1979 in the super heavyweight behind Oleksandr Kolchynskyj, the guest Bulgarian Nikola Dinev , Yevgeny Artjuchin and Anatoli Selenko only on the 5th place.

In 1982 he was used at the World Championships in Katowice . But he did not win a medal there either and ended up in 4th place. After that he was no longer used in an international championship. Awtandil Maisuradse, who also competed several times in the Grand Prix of the Federal Republic of Germany in Aschaffenburg , was a very athletic type and weighed just under 120 kg. With this weight he could hardly do anything against such colossi as Roman Codreanu , who weighed around 160 kg. Later, when a weight limit of 130 kg was introduced for the super heavyweight, it was no longer used or was no longer active.
