Richard Wolff (wrestler)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Wolff (born October 19, 1948 in Bad Reichenhall ) is a former German wrestler . Between 1976 and 1992 he was a total of nine times German super heavyweight champion in both styles.

Career

Richard Wolff began wrestling as a teenager in Bad Reichenhall. He learned the trade of a car mechanic. In the course of his career, which he operated in both styles, Greco-Roman style and free style, he became German champions in both youth A, juniors and seniors. He initially wrestled at AC Bad Reichenhall , but soon moved to SC Anger , then to TSV Kelheim and ended his career at KSV Germania Aalen , with whom he became German team champion in 1979 and 1984.

In 1965 Richard Wolff won his first medal at a German championship with a third place in the German A-Youth Championship (intern. Designation: "Juniors") in the class over 79 kg body weight. In 1966 he was German A youth champion and in 1969 German junior super heavyweight champion. After these successes, it took him a few years before he also made it into the top German class of super heavyweights among senior citizens. In 1973 he was German runner-up in this weight class in the Greco-Roman style behind Horst Schwarz from Untertürkheim . He won his first German championship title in 1976, again in Greco-Roman style. By 1982 he won eight more German championship titles in super heavyweight, four each in Greco-Roman. Style and four in free style.

In December 1972 Richard Wolff won a tournament in Hennef to form the core team of the German wrestling association in the Greco-Roman. Super heavyweight style in front of Pedro Pawlidis from Aalen and Willi Simon from Kahl. From that point on, he was a member of the German national wrestling team. For the first time he was used at an international championship at the European Championship in Minsk in 1975 . He lost there in Greco-Roman. Super heavyweight style against Oleksandr Kolchynskyj from the Soviet Union and against János Rovnyai from Hungary and came in seventh place.

Richard Wolff achieved two remarkable victories in 1976. At the Grand Prix of the Federal Republic of Germany in Aschaffenburg , he beat the Romanian Olympic third and Wilfried Dietrich conqueror Victor Dolipschi on points and at the European Championships in Leningrad he even managed to win points over the Soviet world champion Alexander Kolchinsky. Unfortunately he then lost in Leningrad not only to Alexandar Tomow from Bulgaria , but also to the young Hungarian József Nagy , so that he only came in 4th place in the final score at this European championship. After the victory over Kolchinski, more would certainly have been possible.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he won the Greco-Roman style over the Swedish champion Arne Robertsson , but then lost to János Rovnyai and Roman Codreanu from Romania and came in seventh place.

After the Olympic Games in 1976 there were differences between Richard Wolff and the then national coach Heinz Ostermann, which meant that Wolff was no longer used in any other international championships, although he was by far the best German super heavyweight in both styles for a few years was.
