Roman Wassylowytsch Lejbjuk ( Ukrainian Роман Васильович Лейбюк , English transcription Roman Leybyuk ; born January 16, 1977 in Yaremche , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Ukrainian cross-country skier .

Career

Lejbjuk started in Toblach in December 1998 for the first time in the cross-country skiing world cup and finished 76th in the 10 km freestyle. At the Winter Universiade 2001 in Zakopane he was seventh over 10 km freestyle and sixth over 10 km classic. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season he got his first World Cup points in Kuopio with 28th place over 15 km classic and 23rd place over 10 km freestyle. In the further course of the season he came into the points twice and thus achieved 98th place in the overall World Cup. In the 2003/04 season he achieved his first and only top ten placements in the World Cup with tenth place over 10 km freestyle in Ramsau am Dachstein and seventh place over 15 km classic in Lahti . At the end of the season he finished 60th in the overall World Cup. This was his best overall placement in the World Cup. In January 2005 he won the gold medal in the 10 km freestyle at the Winter Universiade 2005 in Seefeld in Tirol . He finished the Tour de Ski 2006/07 in 40th place and the Tour de Ski 2007/08 in 32nd place. At the Rollerski World Championships 2007 in Oroslavje , he won the silver medal with the relay. In March 2008 he won the cross-country skiing Balkan Cup in Bursa over 10 km classic and in January 2009 the cross-country skiing Eastern Europe Cup in Kharkiv over 15 km classic. In the Tour de Ski 2008/09 he finished 44th and in the Tour de Ski 2009/10 36th place. In his last active season 2010/11 he came 61st place at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo and 32nd place at the Tour de Ski 2010/11 . He took 28th place in the mountain pursuit in the Fiemme Valley for the last time in World Cup points.

Leybyuk participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Torino and 2010 in Vancouver in part. His best results were 14th place in Turin and 11th place in the skiathlon in Salt Lake City. His best placings in seven world championships ( 1999 , 2001 , 2003 , 2005 , 2007 , 2009 and 2011 ) were 16th in the skiathlon in February 2005 in Oberstdorf and 14th place with the relay in February 2003 in Fiemme Valley .
