Roman Patkoló

Roman Patkoló (born February 6, 1982 in Žilina ) is professor of double bass at the Music Academy of the City of Basel and deputy solo double bass at the Zurich Opera House .

Life

Patkoló attended the Conservatory in Žilina from 1996 to 1998, where he was trained by Ján Krigovský and Ružena Šípková . At the age of 15 he joined Prof. Klaus Trumpf as a young student at the Munich University of Music . In the first year of his studies he was successful in several international competitions. In 1999 he received first prize at the International Double Bass Competition in Iowa / USA. In 2000 first prize at the 1st International Johann Matthias Sperger Competition in Germany. In 2003 he won 2nd prize at the ARD music competition in Munich . Parallel to his studies and his solo activities, he played chamber music in the international double bass ensemble " Bassiona Amorosa ".

In 1999, Anne-Sophie Mutter accepted Patkoló as a scholarship holder into her Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. He gives concerts with Sir André Previn and Anne-Sophie Mutter. In 2002 he was heard as a soloist with the “ Philharmonic of Nations ” under Justus Frantz . In the same year he was awarded the European Culture Prize by Federal President Johannes Rau , and in 2003 he and the international double bass ensemble BASSIONA AMOROSA received the “European Quartet Prize” from the European Cultural Foundation PRO EUROPA . In 2005 he was awarded the Glenn Gould Prize as protégé in Toronto , Canada . On April 3, 2011, he received the Aida Stucki Prize , which was awarded for the first time and is endowed with € 10,000. In 2018 he was awarded the Opus Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (double bass) .

Together with Anne-Sophie Mutter, he has premiered numerous works, such as the double concerto for violin and double bass by André Previn with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (2007), Dyad for violin and double bass by Wolfgang Rihm (2011) or the Duo concertante per violino e contrabbasso by Krzysztof Penderecki (2013).

Since 2006 Patkoló has been the deputy solo double bass player at the Zurich Opera. In addition, he was appointed professor of double bass at the University of Music and Theater in Munich in 2007 .

So far, solo concerts in Europe and the USA (with Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maxim Vengerov , Andre Previn ...).
