Roman Pawollek

Roman Pawollek (* 1971 in Opole , Poland ) is a German composer .

Life

The Pawollek family emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1987 as part of the Aussiedler law and settled in Bad Vilbel in Hesse . In 1994 he began studying instrumental and vocal pedagogues in piano with Kenji Kato and Theodora Lungu at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main . First he studied composition at the same institute with Claus Kühnl , later he switched to Gerhard Schedl . In 1998 he received the Richard Wagner scholarship in Bayreuth . After Schedl's suicide, Pawollek moved to Vienna in 2001, where he studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , first with Iván Eröd , then with Erich Urbanner and Chaya Czernowin , and studied electroacoustic composition with Bruno Liberda . In 2006 he received a composition prize at the 3rd International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition. In 2008 he graduated with the distinction "with distinction". In 2009 he became a finalist in the International Helmut Sohmen Composition Competition and in 2011 he received the state grant from the Republic of Austria for composition .

Pawollek's works were made in Austria, Germany, Poland, Italy, Switzerland and China and the like. a. Performed at the Festival Wien Modern, at the Wiener Festwochen , in the ORF broadcasting hall, Wiener Konzerthaus , Musikverein Wien , Arnold Schönberg Center , Kunstverein Alte Schmiede , Künstlerhaus Wien . As interpreters of his works were u. a. Ernst Kovacic , the Ensemble Reconsil, the Morgenstern Trio, the Ensemble LUX, the Leibniz Trio, Ensemble Platypus, the Webern Chamber Choir, the Mobilis Saxophone Quartet, Markus Holzer (4 Saxess), Ingrid Wagner-Kraft, Hermann Ebner (Lower Austria Tonkünstlerorchester ), Sabine Zwick (Viennese Saxophone Quartet), Josef Mayr, Tomasz Skweres, Marianna Oczkowska and Kana Matsui.

His works were broadcast by ORF and Zhongshan Radio (China). Pawollek is married to the Chinese pianist Xiaoying Cai Pawollek.

Pawollek also composes experimental film music for the art films as well as sound installations for the art exhibitions by Eliane Huber-Irikawa (Switzerland) and Lars Koepsel (Germany). Pawollek is also active as a pianist, “keyboard player in various ensembles” in the fields of new music , jazz , pop and improvisation . Roman Pawollek, together with Christian Heindl (Austrian musicologist and holder of the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria ) and Daniel Hensel (German composer and musicologist), campaigns for performances of Gerhard Schedl's music , which is a cooperation of the Vienna Association for Contemporary Music il rilievo , the Alte Schmiede and the Studio for New Music Würzburg eV.
