Roman Wladimirowitsch Rasskasow ( Russian Роман Владимирович Рассказов , English transcription Roman Rasskazov ; born April 28, 1979 in Kowylkino , Mordovia ) is a Russian walker . In 2001 he became world champion in the 20 km walk .

Roman Rasskasow had become junior world champion in the 10,000-meter track walking in 1998. From 1999 to 2001 he was the Russian champion in 20 km walking . In 2000, with 1:17:46 h, he set the world's best performance on the 20-kilometer route and was sixth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in 1:20:57 h.

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , four Russian walkers competed because the defending champion Ilya Markov was automatically qualified. While Vladimir Andreyev was disqualified, the other three were able to pull away from the field and arrived at the stadium together. At the finish line, Roman Rasskasow had an extremely narrow lead over Ilya Markov (1:20:33 h) and eighteen-year-old Viktor Burajew (1:20:36 h) with 1:20:31 h. The Australian Nathan Deakes was fourth in 1:20:55 h.

Two years later at the 2003 World Championships in Paris , it was exceptionally cool for the walkers, so that six of the top ten winners were able to improve their personal records. Jefferson Pérez from Ecuador set a new world record in 1:17:21 h. He undercut the old best of the Spaniard Francisco Javier Fernández by a second. Fernández was second in 1:18:00 h and Rasskasow was only a few meters behind the Spaniard in 1:18:07 h in third.

At a height of 1.86 m, Rasskasov's competition weight is 64 kg.
