Romana Vaccaro , born as Romana Kahlerová (* before 1960 in Prague ) is a Czech-German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

After studying at the Prague Conservatory , at that time still under her maiden name Romana Kahlerová , she won first prize twice in the nationwide singing competition on Czechoslovak television. In Germany she received private tuition from Eike Wilm Schulte and George-Emil Crasnaru , which was followed by attending a master class with Josef Metternich and a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association in Bayreuth.

She came to Germany as a resettler in 1980. She was engaged at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in the 1982/1983 season as alto in the opera choir, where she was, however, also used as a mezzo-soprano in small to medium-sized solo parts in the following period ; this included appearances as Lola in Cavalleria rusticana , as Anna in Maria Stuarda , as Giovanna in Rigoletto , as Agricola in One Night in Venice and as a chambermaid in Macbeth . In the 1990/91 season she took on the role of Maid Glascha in Katja Kabanowa at the Wiesbaden State Theater . In Where the wild guys live (premiere: June 1997) by Oliver Knussen , she sang the role of mother at the Wiesbaden State Theater. From 1985 she appeared as a soloist in concerts and oratorios in the alto department . In the Rhine-Main area she sang in Georg Friedrich Handel's Der Messias and Gioacchino Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle, among others .

In 1995 she sang the mezzo-soprano part in the world premiere of Oratorio by the Italian composer Andrea Cavallari in Florence .

In 1996 she sang Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Frankfurt Chamber Opera . This was followed by Dorabella in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte , in 1998 Santuzza at the National Theater Constanța in Romania and in 1999 Fenena in Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco at the Heidenheim Opera Festival . From 2000 to 2003 she sang several concerts with the Johann Strauss Orchestra Frankfurt, which also operates under the name Frankfurter Sinfoniker. At this time the subject changed to the dramatic soprano. In August 2003 she sang in a production of L'Opera Piccola e. V. from Bad Schwalbach im Taunus , whose artistic director is Vaccaro's husband, Michael Vaccaro, performed Tosca for the first time in the opera of the same name by Giacomo Puccini . The production was repeated in 2004 in the Eberbach monastery . In 2005 she was at Opera en el convento, an opera festival on La Palma , Spain , also in the opera Tosca . Romana Vaccaro sang Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Gut Immling Chiemgau opera festival in 2005 . In July 2008 she sang the title role of Aida for the first time in the opera of the same name by Giuseppe Verdi. Then she appeared as Aida in Siegen . In August 2008 she sang Aida again on the Loreley open-air stage .

Since 2006 she has been working as a freelance dramatic soprano and singing teacher; it now appears predominantly at concerts, open-air events and tour productions as well as at opera galas.
