Romblon is a Filipino municipality and capital of the Romblon Province , in Administrative Region IV-B, Mimaropa. It has 38,758 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census). It is classified as a third income class community in the Philippines and as a village .
The municipality of Romblom includes the island of the same name Romblon and the three north-west offshore secondary islands Logbon , Alad and Cobrador (Naguso). The latter each correspond to a barangay. The remaining 28 barangays are on the island of Romblon. Of these, the Barangays Barangay I , Barangay II , Barangay III and Barangay IV, denoted by the Roman numerals , form the place Romblon within the municipality.
The Spanish fortress Fuerza de San Andres was completed on Romblon in the 17th century ; it was used to control shipping traffic and to give early warning to the Spanish guards on the island when the Moro pirates on raids , in the 17th and 18th centuries, invaded the island approached.
Romblon State University's School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is located in the community .
