Rommelsried is a parish village in the Swabian district of Augsburg . Since the municipal reform , which came into effect on May 1st, 1978, Rommelsried has been part of the municipality of Kutzenhausen .

location

Rommelsried lies in a valley basin that is formed by one of the nameless tributaries to the Roth . In the south the valley basin is bounded by the ridges "Hölle" and "Mittelbühel" towards the Schmuttertal . In the center of the village, the district roads A1 Augsburg - Dinkelscherben and A3 Gessertshausen - Adelsried cross almost at right angles . The nearest train stations are in Gessertshausen and Kutzenhausen . The Augsburger Verkehrsverbund maintains the non-timed bus schedule for line 507 to Augsburg on weekdays. Apart from the high number of visitors during the rush hour of the students, the demand is low due to the line break in Biburg .

history

The place was probably founded in the 11th or 12th century as a clearing site in the imperial forest area of the "Rauhen Forst". Nothing is known about the original rule and ownership, as the written sources on the local history have only been preserved since the end of the 13th century. The tradition that the episcopal forester "Rumoltes" gave the place its name can be doubted, since the Augsburg high church only came into the possession of the forest areas around the village in the 15th century.

At the end of the 13th century, the place was no longer a closed domain. The individual farms were owned by various noble houses in the region. At the beginning of the 14th century, the monasteries of St. Katharina, St. Georg and Oberschönenfeld were the landlords of one or two farms in the village. The parish church and the rectory continued to belong to the Seyfriedsberg castle lordship near Ziemetshausen . The high court was exercised by the Margraviate of Burgau , which kept a bailiff stationed in the place . Rommelsried came with the margraviate of Burgau in the Peace of Pressburg to the Kingdom of Bavaria and was incorporated into the district court of Zusmarshausen.

From 1862 to 1929 Rommelsried belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Augsburg , which from 1939 was called the district of Augsburg .

The Catholic parish of Sankt Ursula and companions in Rommelsried belongs to the parish community of Kutzenhausen in the dean's office in Augsburg-Land in the diocese of Augsburg . The parish church is located a little off the village street and forms a listed ensemble together with the rectory and two other farmhouses from the 19th century. The church building, which is essentially Romanesque, was rebuilt in baroque style after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War and enlarged in 1868 by a donation from the Hörmann couple. At the southern exit of the town is the Holy Sepulcher Chapel with a Way of the Cross , which was also donated by the Hörmann family. The Holy Sepulcher Chapel contains an altar that is probably unique in Germany today and is adorned with hundreds of Bohemian glass beads. This altar was made and installed by the Emil Sbitek company from Olomouc in Moravia in 1871.

Sons and daughters of the place

  • Xaver Hohenleiter (1788–1819), robber, called Der Schwarze Veri , was born in Rommelsried.
