Ronald Maul (born February 13, 1973 in Jena ) is a former German football player and current official.

Career

Club soccer

Maul started playing soccer at SV Gleistal. He came to VfL Osnabrück at the age of 17 through FC Carl Zeiss Jena . In 1995 he moved to Arminia Bielefeld . With the East Westphalia he was promoted to the Bundesliga a year later . In the 1997/98 season he was relegated with Bielefeld from the Bundesliga. In the subsequent second division season , the immediate resurgence succeeded. In total, Maul played 73 games in the 1st Bundesliga and 58 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Bielefeld. He scored five first division and four second division goals.

In 2000 he went to Hamburger SV , where he could not prevail and only played three Bundesliga games. He left the club after a year and moved within the league to FC Hansa Rostock . For the Hanseatic League he played 102 games in the 1st Bundesliga. At the end of the 2004/05 season Maul rose with the team in the 2nd Bundesliga. After Frank Pagelsdorf became the new coach in August 2005, he no longer had a future in Rostock. He came to only eleven second division appearances, and his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2006. While looking for a new club, he initially kept fit with FC St. Pauli , but then signed a contract with the second division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena on October 24, 2006 . However, this was dissolved again at Maul's own request in August 2007. Maul stayed without a club for half a year before joining the regional league club Rot Weiss Ahlen in January 2008 . With Ahlen, he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season. On September 11, 2009 he made his 3rd game in the 2009/10 season against Arminia Bielefeld. It was his last game for Ahlen because he then retired with a protracted pelvic injury. On February 5, 2010, he announced his retirement due to the injury.

National team

In 1999 Maul, who came to the GDR's U-16 team in April 1989 , played twice for the German national soccer team at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup in Mexico. He was substituted on in the 4-0 defeat against Brazil on July 24 and the 2-0 defeat against the USA . In the only success in Mexico, the 2-0 against New Zealand on the 2nd matchday of Group B, Maul was not used.

Career as a football manager

Maul has been a manager at Rot Weiss Ahlen since February 8, 2010. After the insolvency of Ahlen in June 2011 and the associated relegation to the NRW League , a manager was dispensed with, which resulted in Maul's leave of absence. In the 2010/11 season Maul played stand-by at Eintracht Osnabrück in the district league. After completing a distance learning course in the field of sports management , Maul was appointed to the supervisory board of the Westphalia league club FC Gütersloh 2000 in August 2011 . In November of the same year he was also appointed sports director. This activity ended in June 2013. In June 2017 Maul was appointed managing director of SV Meppen .
